Outstanding interview for its clarity and detail. Modernism is a cult of personal revelation which reveals nothing about the world whilst revealing everything about the limitations of the person.

Somewhere in my dog pile of old papers, I have a pdf photocopy of an article or articles that the late Monsignor Joseph Clifford Fenton wrote criticizing Newman extensively. It would be good to see one of the fine folks at WM Review revisit that article or articles and comment on them.

"...canonizing the 'development of doctrine' argument one so frequently hears about Vatican II? Do you agree?"

Yes, and they will deviously & destructively interpret "development of doctrine" as "evolution of doctrine."

Thank you, Messrs Kokx and McCusker! I’m afraid that some of the folk pushing the “Newman-paved-the-way-for-Vatican-II-and-has-a-false-view-of-conscience” will borrow the apostate narrative of Newman-as-probable-poofter, piece of trash published by pornographer John Cornwell last decade, as a kind of bookend with his equally excremental “Hitler’s Pope”. But if it sends people to sitting down to read Newman, the attempt to hijack him will fail.

Cornwell is a piece of work.

I think Bishop Donald Sanborn should read this article. He's been vocal about Newman being a liberal, if not worse.
