Is the Detroit purge a sign of things to come under the Leo regime?
Even moderate 'conservatives' are being censured
News of Ralph Martin, Eduardo Echeverria, and Ed Peters’ firings from Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit has spread like wildfire.
The general consensus is that this is a “purge” — one that in my eyes is not dissimilar from the one carried out at LifeSiteNews earlier this month; the exception being that John-Henry Westen has since been re-instated.
Side note: Many are asking if I will be brought back as well. I hope so, as my firing was wholly unjustified and seemingly instigated by bad actors. As of yet I have not heard from anyone over there so I’ll keep plugging away in this space for the foreseeable future.
A number of voices have expressed outrage over the firings, including Joseph Strickland.
“The removal of Martin, Echeverria and now a respected Canonist [Ed Peters] shows clearly that the Archbishop is working against tradition and orthodoxy. We should pray for him but resist his anti Catholic decisions. I pray Rome will intervene,” Strickland opined on Twitter.
That sounds nice on paper but it conveniently forgets to mention that while he was head of the Dicastery for the Congregation of Bishops Leo would have likely urged Francis to tap Weisenburger to lead the Detroit Archdiocese in the first place.
What’s more, it seems reasonable to believe that Weisenburger would not have done this without having first received the blessing of “Rome” aka Pope Leo, who has shown the world with his many liberal appointments and Francis-esque remarks that he himself is “working against tradition and orthodoxy.”
By my count, this is the second major attack carried out on “conservatives” in the U.S. during Leo’s reign, the other being the suppression of the Latin Mass in the Diocese of Charlotte. What reason is there for Catholics to be, as Taylor Marshall recently said, “optimistic” that Leo will uphold “traditional doctrine with clarity and courage”? I myself have found none.
Strickland and his starry-eyed confrères need to wake up and realize Modernists are going to do what Modernists do: attack anyone who resists in the slightest their diabolical agenda. Said another way, Trad Inc. needs to recognize this is a war to the death and that they need to quit lying to themselves about who Leo actually is.
Dissent will not be tolerated under Leo
Our friend Chris Jackson has summarized the situation unfolding in Detroit in the following way:
Martin and Echeverria are not radicals. They’re not sedevacantists. They’re not even SSPX. They’re the kind of “conservative Catholics” who spent years trying to reconcile the contradictions of Vatican II with the faith of the ages. They affirmed the legitimacy of Pope Francis. They tried to make sense of Amoris Laetitia. But eventually, they reached the only conclusion honesty permits: the confusion isn’t accidental. It’s systemic. And it’s coming from the top.
Jackson also referenced an article published in 2019 by the left-wing National Catholic Reporter titled: “Pope Francis’ critics at Sacred Heart Seminary in Detroit are vocal online.” Jackson explains that the essay acted like a “hit list” for the Vatican so it could identify resistors in order to root them out. Jackson thus concludes:
This isn’t about liturgy or even about Francis anymore. It’s about a system that will not tolerate even the gentlest rebuke of doctrinal revolution … This is your Church, post-Vatican II: Praise Francis/ Leo, keep your job. Speak the truth, pack your things. The rest of us had better take notes.

I have listened to Taylor Marshall since the days of the Amazon Synod. He is one of the people I credit for bringing me into Traditional Catholicism, and I cannot say how much I have learned from him over the years. I am very sorry to see that he continues to refuse to see the truth about Pope Leo. I understand that so many Catholics are so desperate for hope, but at this point, you have to lie to yourself not to see what is going on. I pray that Marshall and so many others may change their outlook soon.
The Sedevacantists are the true Remnant of the actual One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church. The post Vatican II sect possesses NONE of the Four Marks of the true Church. Trad Inc., Novus Ordo, and all of the Uniate rites say they are in union with a “pope” who supports homosexual marriage, heresy, and destroys defined Catholic dogma and doctrine. They’re all asleep at the wheel. They all remain willfully blind to the spiritual danger to their souls. Yet, most Modernists want this New Church because it blesses their sins and calls them good. It is called “Pastoral Accompaniment.” It leads straight to Hell- not to Heaven like they all think.
