On your last point, we can't know that they don't also pray beforehand. Can a brief prayer at the beginning of a presentation be misused as a virtue signal? I suppose it can be, but I give them the benefit of the doubt. Smoking like a chimney on the other hand screams, "look at how hip I am!" whether that's the intention or not.
